Deep Sleep

Description

I love my baby. I've had Mittens for 6 years. We got him when he was just a little kitten from a home that wasn't doing much to take care of him. He was just shy of two weeks and still needed taking care of. For the first two days, he wouldn't eat or drink. We had to buy metabolism enhancers so that he would. I carried him everywhere with me; he would curl up in my upturned shirt and shake. For the first week, he would sleep inside my shirt and curl up by my arm. Over the years, he got bigger, and his place in my heart grew with him.

This past summer, I found out some tragic news. Where my mom lived, pets were not allowed, but my mom couldn't afford the pet fee. When the maintnence guys where there, they saw the pet dishes and reported the cat to the office. They told my mother that she either had to pay the $800 or give him away. If she didn't, in three days she would be evicted. So my cat had to go to a shelter. Luckily, the shelter has a policy that they will never put the animal to sleep. They'll either find a home for it, or keep it there.

I can only imagine what was going through his head as he sat in a room full of stranger, and other cats. I hope he didn't feel betrayed, and I really hope he doesn't hate me. I love him so much, and I miss him so much. I would gladly bring him home with me in Florida, but my dad hates cats. He could live in my room. I'd keep the litter box and the food in my room. I don't care about the smell, but I know the answer would still be no.

Mittens. I miss you, and I still love you.

With every picture of this small one, I get a little more sniffly.. ;_; I hope he gets a good home..it's so sad..We were fortunate that our house hadn't been sold yet, so while we were in the apartment, Sam lived at home until moving time. Sadly, he died of diabhetic shock almost immediately after we moved in to the new house.
